Frisian Reference Grammar
Frisian Reference Grammar is intended as a general comprehensive introduction to West Frisian, a Germanic language closely related to English and presently spoken in the Netherlands. The work is intended to be useful both to the educated layperson and to the professional linguist.
Each topic is broken down into smaller and relatively self-contained units, which can be accessed through the table of contents or the index. At the same time, the book can also be read cover-to-cover by those wishing to get an overview of the language or to learn to speak, read or write Frisian.
Because the book has been written in a relatively non-technical format (in order to make it accessible to non-specialists), copious notes for the linguist have been spread throughout the book which discuss more technical matters or dialect variation in greater detail and refer the interested reader to works which can provide further information.
Following a general introduction to the language and sections on pronunciation, spelling, morphology and syntax, the book concludes with a few excerpts from literary texts, with translation.
